Organization Name Guidance
Please refer to our organization as The Arc Minnesota.
You may sometimes see our name written incorrectly as ARC Minnesota. That was our original name, when “ARC” was used as an acronym. Today, that is no longer correct. The “R” stood for a word that is no longer used and is not respectful to the intellectual and developmental disability community.
The Arc is not an acronym. The national organization’s press center makes the same point in its guidance for reporters: “The Arc should never be used as an acronym.”
The Arc represents a bridge to resources, advocacy, and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Using The Arc Minnesota reflects our commitment to dignity, respect, and inclusion.
