Housing Access Services (HAS) began in July 2009. It is a contract between The Arc Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Housing Division. The contract allows The Arc Minnesota to assist adults with disabilities find and move to independent housing. HAS has helped more than 2,000 people with disabilities in moving to homes of their own.
This program is open to those who are eligible or currently receiving a Medical Assistance Home Care Service (such as ARMHS, PCA, PCA Choice, Private Duty Nursing or SILS).
A lot of the people who we work with require income based housing because their only source of income is General Assistance or Social Security. We partner with different Housing Finance Agencies to match people with housing vouchers.
We are also fortunate enough to have relationships with many different landlords and agencies that work with us in helping people find a home of their own. We work with each person on an individual basis to see what they need and require for housing. This can differ greatly from person to person. We are able to act quickly and provide financial assistance when a person needs it most, thanks to our partnership with Department of Human Services.
