Find a Home of Your Own

Housing Access Services helps adult Minnesotans, 18 and up, who want to move to homes of their own and have been assessed as eligible or currently receiving certain Minnesota Medicaid home care services.

Housing Access Services began in July 2009 and is a contract between The Arc Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Housing Division. The contract allows The Arc Minnesota to assist adults with disabilities who are eligible or currently receiving a Medical Assistance Home Care Service(such as ARMHS, PCA, PCA Choice, Private Duty Nursing or SILS) in finding and moving to independent homes of their own. HAS recently reached the milestone of assisting over 2,000 people with disabilities in moving to homes of their own.

A lot of the people that we work with require income based housing as their only source of income is General Assistance or Social Security. We have been able to partner with different Housing Finance Agencies to be able to match people up with housing vouchers.

We are also fortunate enough to have relationships with many different landlords and agencies that work with us in helping people find a home of their own. We work with each person on an individual basis to see what they need and require for housing.  This can differ greatly from person to person.

Thankfully, with our partnership with Department of Human Services and the contract that we have with them, we are able to act quickly and able to assist financially when a person needs it most. We look forward to a continued partnership and to helping more people with disabilities find homes of their own.
