2022 Leader of the Year Awards

The Arc Minnesota Leader of the Year Awards recognize contributions to further our mission in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The new awards program extends the legacy of awards previously presented by The Arc at the state and chapter level. One award will be selected in each category. The 2022 Leader of the Year Awards will be presented at The Arc Minnesota Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Self-Advocacy Leader of the Year

Recognizes an outstanding self-advocate who is an achieving, active and/or included member of the community. Qualified candidates will be individuals advocating for the rights/needs of persons with disabilities, participating in self-advocacy related activities/movements, leading others in the learning of self-advocacy skills, participating in community or self-advocacy focused boards/committees, representing the disability community in a leadership role and/or related activities

Mission Leader of the Year, Individual

Awarded to an individual or family who has made the biggest impact for The Arc mission in the past year.  This could include individuals, families or organizations that have provided extraordinary gifts of time, talent and/or treasure to The Arc.  The recipient of this award has created a program, service, idea or solidified inclusion and independence of the disability community in the areas of work, recreation or community engagement and involvement.

Mission Leader of the Year, Organization

Awarded to individuals or organizations that raise awareness, advocate for and create a positive impact on the rights, needs and/or contributions that persons with disabilities have with each other, The Arc and/or the community.  This award focuses on making a difference for individuals with disabilities and their families through work in public policy, legal or systems change arenas.

Public Policy Leader of the Year

Awarded to individuals or organizations that raise awareness, advocate for and create a positive impact on the rights, needs and/or contributions that persons with disabilities have with each other, The Arc and/or the community.  This award focuses on making a difference for individuals with disabilities and their families through work in public policy, legal or systems change arenas.

Intern Leader of the Year

All individuals who have participated in experiential learning (field placements, internships, student consulting projects, etc.) are eligible for this award. These experiences could have been for credit or no credit, paid or unpaid.  Intern must complete a minimum of 1 term with Arc and a minimum of 75 hours.  Candidates must also display a positive attitude, willingness to learn beyond the scope of their internship, successfully complete their intern responsibilities, consistently exceed established performance standards and provide a profound impact to the organization and the people we serve.
