The Arc Minnesota is the “Featured Activity Partner” at the Relaxed Performance of Into the Woods on Sunday, July 30th at 1:00 PM at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.
The Guthrie Theater is holding Relaxed Performances as part of its accessibility offerings. A relaxed performance is intended to be sensitive to and accepting of any audience member who may benefit from a more relaxed environment while allowing guests to come, be themselves, and experience a live performance. These performances are open to all guests and are intentionally modified to accommodate guests with sensory and vestibular sensitivities, anxiety, dementia, autism spectrum disorders, learning differences, and/or other challenges attending the theater.
Modifications include reducing the volume of loud noises and effects, eliminating strobe lights, keeping the house lights on, and having a relaxed attitude toward sound and movement in the audience. In addition to onstage and in the theater, lobbies, and public spaces will include quiet areas, sensory-friendly activities, and increased staff to create a safe, welcoming environment.

Into the Woods Description:
Once upon a time, Cinderella pines to make a cameo at the ball, Jack (of beanstalk fame) tends to his pet cow, Little Red Riding Hood sets off toward grandmother’s house and a baker and his wife discover they are barren, thanks to a curse from the neighboring witch. They all head into the woods and embark on remarkable journeys that include falling in love, slaying a giant, facing off with a wolf, and more. Just when all wishes appear to be granted, a stray magic bean sprouts a second stalk and the giant’s vengeful wife disrupts everyone’s happy ending.
