Self-Advocate Blog: Meet Katie!

A picure of Katie. A white women with long reddish hair and glassesKatie is a self-advocate from Roseville, Minnesota. She has been a self-advocate since 2006 and working as an Advocate Associate at The Arc Minnesota since 2015!

At The Arc Minnesota, Katie runs a self-advocacy group called “Self-Advocate Advisory Committee.” She was formerly a part of Self-Advocates Minnesota and Merrick Shooting Stars. She is dedicated, active, and passionate in her work and supporting others.

Katie shared that she is a great self-advocate because she is a leader, friendly, and listens to others’ opinions, respectful, and supports others as much as she can.

She enjoys being part of self-advocate groups because she gets to meet new people and make friends while sharing stories and experiences from each person’s self-advocacy journey. She also enjoys going to conferences, presenting, and helping others in gaining leadership skills and self-confidence. She looks forward to meeting everyone in person after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

Outside of self-advocacy Katie enjoys watching movies and spending time with her nieces doing arts and crafts. She has three cats named Charlie, Gizmo, and Rosie. Some of her of her current goals are to get her driver’s license and start her own self-advocacy organization.

Thanks for sharing, Katie!
