The Arc Minnesota provides consistent and essential services to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. As a newly merged statewide organization, we need to proactively reach out to people we could support in order to ensure they are aware of information that is relevant, accurate, and most importantly, accessible. The most efficient way to do this is by modernizing our education and training programs.
Currently, our training and education workshops cover topics like employment, healthcare, and housing access and are offered as in-person events within the Twin Cities and webinars that are available to view online through our Learning Center. In 2017, 300 people attended 24 in-person trainings. In the same year, more than 1,200 people tuned in to 18 videos on our YouTube channel and we reached over 1,000 people through one Facebook Live video. We were able to provide information and assistance to four times more people in one year through utilizing technology in our education and training sessions. By diversifying our platforms for trainings and workshops, we know we can continue to reach even more individuals.
The 2019 Arc Gala will fund the modernization and expansion of our education and training models to support the changing needs of individuals with disabilities and their families around the state. Your support will provide an effective and efficient way to introduce ourselves as a resource to communities around the state, provide online trainings that pertain to their needs, and become more accessible by providing useful information for the people we support to access when most convenient for them.
Proceeds from the 2019 Arc Gala will support:
- Content development and presentation training for advocates to build skills to efficiently deliver information.
- Hosting live and virtual community “town hall” forums to introduce communities to The Arc Minnesota and our resources.
- Update equipment and streaming platforms to deliver a high-quality online experience for webinars and online meetings.
- Assess the dynamic and diverse needs of different communities around the state and create educational opportunities that respond to those needs.
